Modest Fashion Find: Black Pleated Skirt

Pleats make a skirt or dress look more feminine because they allow for movement of the fabric. Whether it’s box, accordion, kick, honeycomb or another variation, pleats add style to the garment.

Pleats can be traced back to Egyptian and Greek societies. Plisse, or a permanent crinkled or puckered effect, was used by Egyptians. It was an intensive process to get the desired look. Pleated garments were worn by the aristocratic and has an air of luxury.

Modest Fashion Find

There are many ways to wear a pleated skirt. A flattering pleated skirt has pleats that begin at the hip area or anywhere below the waistband.

This modest fashion find features a black pleated skirt with buckles. It hits right below the knee with an appropriate fit. Add a pair of tall leather boots, printed top and round cross body bag. Simple. Modest. Stylish.

Skirt Leggings

Where there’s a way, there’s a skirt to be made. I’ve often considered turning some of my workout leggings into a skirt. The thought crossed my mind as I pulled out a pair today to wear under a dress. (Yes, it’s like that!) It’d be easy enough to do, but I was concerned about the skirt being too tight. A simple solution would be to buy a pair of leggings a size too big, so that I could have enough fabric to work with. Or I could just get some stretchy fabric and stitch up a simple maxi skirt. Ironically, I stumbled upon Mimu Maxi today. They have skirt leggings! Imagine my surprise.

Now this skirt legging by Mimu Maxi is meant to be worn for fashion and not sprinting around the gym. The skirt is a long maxi shape and comes in a variety of prints. Think comfortable fashion that can be dressed up or down, reminiscent of leggings but in skirt form.

Mimu Maxi offers more than the skirt leggings on their site. Although I don’t own a skirt legging from them, I do applaud the duo for their designs and making the skirt leggings and other modest pieces available.

Have you tried the Mimu Maxi skirt legging? I’d love to hear from you!

Fall Fashion Find: Oversized Slouchy Sweaters

It’s a cool and windy day in the neighborhood, and I’m thinking of oversized slouchy sweaters, a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. Maybe it’s the model’s top bun or the large bright yellow clutch, but the black and white zebra print knit Roberta Sweater by Trina Turk looks quite chic with a midi-length accordion pleat skirt. What lovely fall fashion!

Perfect your Model Me Girl walk in the Laguna—a black peep toe slip-on leather shoe, also available in suede and different colors/patterns.

I’ve included additional oversized slouchy sweaters below for your shopping delight. Enjoy!

The rising trend of the midi-skirt over the last few seasons has been to modest, yet fashion-forward girls everywhere. Once dismissed as dowdy and out of date, length is back with a vengeance, and we’re finding it right at the cutting edge of this season’s styles.

Paying special attention to details like sleeves and necklines, we’ve gathered up a few of the most wearable, modest spring midi dress trends of the season.

Spread Your Wings with a Feather Clutch

Model Me Girl

Here’s a style idea: feather clutch. You can go soft and sophisticated, or bold and edgy. This could be a great option for the bride who loves feathers. Her bridesmaids could tote feather clutches down the aisle instead of a bouquet of flowers.

Go on. Spread your wings and fly.

I ran across these threads by Octopus Ink Clothing in Alaska. The skirts and tees caught my eye. The designs are original and screen printed by hand.
