Winter White on White – Just Add Cream

I never understood the logic behind “don’t wear white after labor day.” Why not? Nature itself paints a portrait of winter as white with snow and a variety of animals that change into winter white coats for the season. By all means, wear white.

Just Add Cream

Too shy to wear bright white in the winter? Opt for white with a gold/yellow tone that warms up the color, such as cream and ivory.

New Year’s Style Resolutions: Eternal Elegance

What are your New Year’s style resolutions? Perhaps you dream of eternal elegance; trading school duds and comfy chic for a little refinement on the side.

This is your season to try a style you never saw yourself in before — keeping it modest, of course.

Merriam-Webster defines elegance as:

refined grace or dignified propriety; tasteful; dignified gracefulness or restrained beauty of style; polish; classiness

The New Year’s Style Resolutions set includes one of my interpretation of eternal elegance. I envision classic feminine shapes with tasteful ornamentation. What’s elegance to you?

Happy New Year, loves!

Seeing Red and Black Checks

If you’ve heard of the idiom seeing red, you know it means to be angry. Although turning red or flush in the face can hint at embarrassment or as the result of heart-pumping activity, it’s also common for people to turn red when angry. Of course I don’t want you to see red. Relax and smile! We’re going in the direction of red and black check patterns with the Check Red fashion set.

Red and Black

Red and black are intense colors on their own. They make an even richer statement when used together. Serious. Powerful. Mysterious. Danger. But a check pattern tones down some of the intensity and gives your eyes something to play with. The check pattern can also appear more youthful depending on the width of the lines in the pattern.

Style It

I styled this set around the red and black check dress with lace trim. The trim plays double duty by softening the dress and adding a little drama. I’m sure I’m on repeat when I say I’m a big fan of boots. The selected booties are edgy – just the way I like them.

Gold-toned jewelry polishes up the set. The tassel necklace creates a fine balance with the lace trim. Blanket coats are on trend this season. Wrap up in saucy red one or opt for sophisticated black.

Style It! Burgundy Top with Black Pleated Skirt

Today, we’ll be styling a burgundy top and black pleated skirt.

My Process

I started with a black pleated skirt by DKNY. The skirt is faux leather, knee-length and listed at an affordable price of $195.

It’s autumn and I wanted to reflect seasonal colors. Wine or burgundy is a jewel tone color that’s perfect for fall. It is my go-to color in this set.

Next, I selected a burgundy asymmetric wool-jersey top by Isa Arfen. The soft wool top slips on and has a draped fitting. Asymmetric tops make the upper body appear narrower, elongating the torso. The asymmetric draping creates a flow similar to the black pleated skirt.

Both burgundy and black are deep, rich and strong colors. I spiced things up with a brown-based leopard-print calf hair pump by Gianvito Rossi. It’s a pointed toe, 4-inch heel. Wow!

The bag is a beautiful structured burgundy satchel by Jérôme Dreyfuss. It’s part calfskin and part goatskin. It’s smooth grain texture is a complement to the pleated skirt.

I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the asymmetric wool top, so I avoided upper body accessories, such as a necklace. Instead, I chose some sweet arm candy by Paige Novick. The black stingray cuff is elegantly layered with gold-toned chains which resonate with the leopard pumps. I grabbed more burgundy with Enamored nail glaze in “Desire Wine” by Marc Jacobs, essentially extending the arm candy right down to the finger tips.

Lomographic Influence

There are plenty of reasons to rave over analog cameras. Some people call them toy cameras, but they were on the scene before DSLR and camera phones turned the masses into photographers. Analog cameras added “filters” and effects to photographs before Instagram.

The lomography photographic lifestyle is fueled by the Lomographic Society International and passionate artists of every kind — from the professional and hobbyist, to the friend who shows up at every event with a camera.

The results you get from lomographic film photography can be categorized as unexpected amazement. You don’t necessarily choose your effects, you’re surprised by them. Light leaks are acceptable. Blurred images are common, but the photos are colorful and unique. The principle behind lomography is there are no rules —  just shoot without being bound by photographic techniques. Picture a kid with a camera. It’s fun and creative!

I curated items in the Lomographic Influence set based on the striped colors of the La Sardina St. Tropez Graniers 35mm Wide-Angle Camera found in the lomograpy shop.

Style It! Floral Bomber Jacket & Denim Skirt

Let’s style a floral bomber jacket and denim skirt. First a little style history.

Fashion/Style History of the Bomber Jacket

The bomber jacket is also called a flight jacket. Birthed in the 1900s, the bomber jacket was initially designed for military pilots who needed something heavy-duty to wear in-flight. Bomber jackets provided much needed warmth during a time when cockpits were not enclosed. The temperature got pretty frigid in high altitudes. The jackets were traditionally lined with fur or wool, and featured high wrap-around collars.

Today, you can find bomber jackets of different materials, with or without lining. Many designers have crafted bomber jackets of lighter fabrics so we can enjoy them when it’s not as cold.  Although initially designed for a very important function, bomber jackets make a bold style statement. It has a sense of cool, edginess and don’t take yourself too seriously symbolism. The style and shape of the bomber jacket is very forgiving and looks great on many body types.

Style It!

This set includes the Wonder Anatomie ‘Revolt’ floral bomber jacket. The graphic print flowers add a feminine touch to a very edgy piece. The fabric is polyester, so it’s definitely not a heavy-duty jacket. I mirrored the white collar and cuffs of the jacket by adding a basic white back-message t-shirt by Mango. I didn’t want the set too dressy, so I opted for a distressed denim pencil skirt. Pencil skirts smooth out the thighs and are great for curvy or hourglass and pear figures. The pencil skirt hints at office style, but the denim tones it down.

I felt like this set needed a jolt of cobalt blue, which you can see a small amount of in the floral bomber jacket. Cobalt blue is a great color and flatters many skin tones. I searched and couldn’t resist the geometric-inspired blue ‘Moneymaker’ peep toe pumps by Nine West and cobalt blue suede clutch bag by Tom Ford. I like how the textures of the peep toe pumps and clutch work with the smooth-textured tee.

How to Wear Suede + Tulle in Candy Colors

How would you wear suede and tulle? Candy colors would be delightful, and Burberry makes it easy with their purple cropped suede  jacket with patent trim. We’ll stay with Burberry and fall in awe with the Prorsum collection tiered cobweb tulle skirt.

The nude leather pumps are by Gianvito Rossi. I wasn’t able to find the candy-colored Vivienne Westwood New Chancery 6605 Rucksack bag for sell anywhere online. Don’t fret. There are other variations of the Chancery available.

This Suede + Tulle in Candy Colors set is light and feminine. I mean, who doesn’t feel like a princess or ballerina in tulle? (Have I said this before?)

Many styles of tops will work well with the suede jacket and tulle skirt, but I opted for a batwing sleeved graphic tee of a darling deer.  I wanted to give it a little edginess, but keep it soft. I’d knot the tee in the front as a nod to street style chic and toss that Vivienne Westwood bag over my shoulder…and we are walking.

Suede and Tulle Candy Colors
